Yamaha Robotics SMT Section has released new YSUP smart factory software with automatic troubleshooting, and previewed the advanced functionality to Productronica visitors during the Munich event’s technical program in November.

Presenting at the Productronica Forum, Yamaha’s Kamil Stasiak, SMT Section product marketing manager, described in-depth the new YSUP Analytics Dashboard that quickly identifies the causes of any assembly defects. The new functionality increases production efficiency and enables every shift to achieve consistent productivity by relieving reliance on the production team’s diagnostic skills.

Operating continuously while assembly is ongoing, the auto-analytical functionality works with data from inline inspection systems and generates clear instructions for operators to take remedial action. The system also displays the effects of improvements on the YSUP Dashboard monitor to keep production teams always up to speed with progress. The underlying platform is based on statistical techniques and allows scaling to add further analytics tools.

The Forum audience learned how the software identifies probable causes of recorded exceptions in near real-time using analytical methods including flow judgement, error-code diagnostics, health-check data diagnostics, and image-recognition diagnostics. Its capabilities include automatic pickup error analysis, which lets production staff view the time and circumstances of any pickup errors, see the exact location, and view corrective actions.

The new Dashboard is fully integrated in Yamaha’s YSUP intelligent factory software, which provides production support tools for planning, implementing, measuring, and improving manufacturing on surface-mount production lines. The tools include applications for scheduling production, creating work orders, programming inline equipment, managing components, monitoring production status, ensuring traceability, predicting results, and reviewing workflows.

Among several new features added in recent software releases, YSUP-MI enhances management of materials on assembly lines and YSUP-LINK connects production equipment with enterprise systems using industry-standard protocols. Also, YSUP-OC operation control generates work instructions, handles warnings and error notifications, and helps operators sort and prioritise their tasks.

The unifying GUI ensures intuitive operation with easy access to settings and production status information expressed in clear charts and graphics. The YSUP Dashboard, now with auto analytics as explained in depth at the Productronica Forum, also features pickup analysis, accuracy analysis, print analysis, and real-time production monitoring.

Yamaha Robotics has revealed the YRM20DL dual-lane mounter for the first time in Europe at Productronica 2023, and also introduced new features of its powerful smart-factory software tools.

Presenting the YRM20DL alongside the latest equipment in the 1 STOP SMART SOLUTION, Yamaha received the Global Technology Awards trophy for the advanced new machine in a celebration at the booth on the first evening of the event. The YRM20DL is the first dual-lane mounter that delivers complete flexibility to handle high-volume and high-mix in the same platform. It connects efficiently to Yamaha’s YRP10DL dual-lane printer and YRi-V DL dual-lane 3D AOI system.

The 1 STOP SMART SOLUTION, as displayed at Productronica, comprises Yamaha’s latest YR series surface-mount machines, bringing cutting-edge accuracy and stability and advanced features for extra speed and efficiency. The YRP10 premium printer automates laborious procedures including stencil changeover and solder-paste transfer, while the YRM20 mounter permits non-stop cart and feeder changes. The YRi-V 3D AOI system combines high-resolution vision and high-speed graphics processing, now boosted with AI to enhance component recognition, simplify programming, minimise cycle time, and increase inspection accuracy.

Productronica visitors also saw Yamaha’s industrial robots in action, demonstrating their ability to handle general assembly, picking, placing, and moving items at high speed and with high accuracy. The triumph of selective soldering is a representation of developments in electronics production. The applications are becoming more and more diverse and the component variants are increasing. With the VERSAFLOW ONE, system supplier Ersa presents the entry into the excellence class of selective soldering. With the F-series, it offers inline technology at the price of a batch machine. The ONE is the first system in its class to offer the option of two pots per soldering module, the distance between which can be adjusted manually in the transport direction. This makes it the ideal choice for small and series production of simple assemblies that require reliable technology with high throughput. Ersa presented the new X-series at Productronica 2023 in Munich: the VERSAFLOW ONE with x-variable axis system, optionally also available with a 2-stopper solution. A special added value for customers that significantly increases throughput – and a unique feature in the entry-level class. Up to eight assemblies (max. dimensions 350 x 508 mm) and up to four assemblies (max. dimensions 508 x 508 mm) can be processed simultaneously in the machine, making the VERSAFLOW ONE XFF a genuine high-speed machine.

The VERSAFLOW ONE incorporates decades of know-how from the market leader in the form of proven hardware and intuitive software (ERSASOFT 5). The ONE has all the features that have made Ersa selective soldering the leading technology in the industry over many years. It has a 3 mm pin chain/roller conveyor and program-controlled width adjustment as standard for maximum flexibility and performance. The flux module relies on the proven multidrop system with one or two flux heads and numerous options. The precision of the multidrop fluxer enables almost any conceivable geometry.

The basic version of the preheater is equipped with a short-wave IR heating module from below. Top heating with convection in the preheater is available as an option. Contactless monitoring of the PCB temperature in the preheater guarantees maximum process reliability. Features such as automatic nozzle activation or solder wire feed are also on board. Of course, connection to the KE CONNECT digital service platform is also available on request, making the VERSAFLOW ONE a safe investment for future requirements in digitized electronics production.

Launched in April 2023, the YRM20DL accepts boards up to 330mm on both lanes simultaneously. Fully independent drives and push-up pins in each lane ensure boards are clamped, populated, released, and moved out efficiently. Overdrive mode lets each placement head operate in either or both lanes and each lane allows non-stop feeder cart changeovers. Users can leverage this flexibility to assign identical products to both lanes, or different products of unequal workload and cycle time, to optimise throughput and ease production planning.

With 120,000 cph placement speed and +/-15µm accuracy, the YRM20DL integrates outstanding features from the single-lane YRM20 mounter. These include the stopperless conveyor system that meets automotive-industry requirements for careful board handling, low-impact placement nozzles, Yamaha’s Multiple Accuracy Compensation System (MACS), and options including coplanarity checking and the all-image tracer.

The optional advanced safety package supports safety category 3 and other safety items and includes independently controlled front and rear signal towers, auto nozzle station, and chip-dump box overflow prevention.

With an SMT production line that was fully optimized for volume production and a flexible SMT line for small-batch production, ASMPT demonstrated once again that the innovation and market leader is able to cover the entire hardware spectrum for modern electronics manufacturing. The hybrid pick-and-place machine SIPLACE CA marks the successful synthesis between chip assembly and SMT processing, and the industry audience’s interest was correspondingly high.

ASMPT’s software products were all about its new Intelligent Factory concept, which focuses on the smart use of data and connects all production levels from the machines to the enterprise into a functional and productive whole. As a result, skilled workers are deployed more efficiently, materials are scheduled more effectively, and errors and production impediments are detected and rectified more quickly. Also trend-setting was ASMPT’s Critical Manufacturing software business, which presented its modern, integrated manufacturing execution system (MES) designed specifically for electronics manufacturing at the trade fair.
